Our Green Mission News
This Month the Social Concerns Committee decided to speak to you about our most important resource. NO, IT IS NOT OIL. Our most precious resource is WATER. It is very important we all conserve and respect water.
Here are some tips for conserving water:
- When doing the dishes, put some water in the sink or in a pot and use that water to wash the dishes. Always clean the cleanest dish first and work your way to the dirtiest dish. Then, in a pot or dishpan, put a reasonable amount of hot water and rinse the dishes that are not going into the dishwasher.
- When taking a shower, get wet and turn off the shower. Soap up and then turn on the shower to rinse off.
- Water your plant with the water you used to make pasta.
- Wash clothes only when you have a full load.
- Wash your car by putting water in a bucket. Use a sponge to soap up the car and than use a clean bucket of water and the sponge to rinse it.
- Install water saving showerheads and low flow toilets (or at least put a brick in the tank.) And remember, you don’t have to flush after each use.
- Fix all dripping faucets. If you can’t fix it immediately, put a container in the sink to catch any water from a dripping faucet and use it elsewhere.
When using water, the best way to conserve is to think of it the way our ancestors had to. If every time you wanted water you had to haul it from the well, stream or lake, you would think of how you were using every drop. Water may flow like it is unending from our taps but it is not.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does recycling and church have to do with each other?
We are all stewards of the gifts we have received. One of the biggest gifts we have been given is our planet. By recycling the resources that we use on our planet we show great gratitude and respect for the gift we have been given.
Does one person recycling make a difference?
Of course one person makes a difference. One Person One Person One Person One Person makes a group and One Group One Group One Group makes a community and One Community One Community One Community = a Planet of people recycling and respecting the world on which they live.
